Melissa & Dave - Adventures at Sea

There be giant manta rays here!

We did two dives today. The morning dive was as good as it gets. Not only did we see fish, sharks, and turtles again, we also saw a giant manta ray. Best guess is that it was about 12 ft x 12 ft. We were in its shadow - only about 20 ft away. Incredible! Melissa dreamt about seeing the manta ray for two nights.

We then went on a sunset cruise where they served wine and cheese. On board was a gal who claimed to be from a TV show called "Saturday Morning". She and her photographer were filming a segment for the show. However, upon our return, we can find no record of the website they told us to go look at to find the show. Hmmmm. Weird.

Anyway, the cruise was great, and the sunset was amazing. On the engine cowling sat a seagull they called "stumpy" because he was completely missing the webbing on his feet. Looks to be a genetic accident because we can't see how he would have gotten that way through any physical accident. The staff aren't supposed to feed the animals on the island, but they feel sorry for stumpy and have been feeding him for 10 years. Who knew a seagull would live that long?!

When we got back to the dock, there was a small manta ray (maybe 2 ft x 2 ft) that proceeded to bury himself under the dock in the sand. Weird that he would do that right near the shore.
