Melissa & Dave - Adventures at Sea

A slow meander through Paris

We slept in as neither of us is still feeling very well.  We got lunch at an outdoor café near the hotel, and then headed off to the Musée d'Orsay, where they house the impressionist art.  The line was 1 hour long in the hot sun and neither of us felt like it was worth it, so we bought tickets to the tour boat that drives around the historic part of Paris.  It’s cool because you can hop on/off the boat at each stop.  We got off at the Church of Notre Dame and wandered around for a while and took the audio tour.  Interesting, but we were surprised that the relics on display were not very old – only a few hundred years.  The stuff we saw in the Camon church were older albeit these were more grandiose.

Then we were off to see the Eiffel Tower.  I didn’t realize it is brown.  The line to go up looked to be another 2 hours in the hot sun so we skipped it and went to a café for a snack instead.  We then got back on the boat and got off at St. Germain and wandered around peeking in the windows of all the art galleries in that area.

Back to the hotel for a brief rest and then off to dinner at Les Ombres.  The restaurant is located on the roof of a museum with an amazing view of the Eiffel Tower and the skyline of historic Paris.  Dinner was a one of a kind to be sure.  Kir Royale for an aperitif.  Gazpacho, followed by a salad with all sorts of things we couldn’t recognize, and then a dinner of lamb crusted with pistachios, steak with Béarnaise, and finally deserts we didn’t recognize but that were delicious.  After the fabulous meal, we went to catch a cab back to the hotel.  Alas, there were no cabs to be found.  The one that stopped was swiped by another couple just exiting the restaurant.  We walked half way back to the hotel before we finally found one – and the high heels I was wearing were not walking shoes!
