Melissa & Dave - Adventures at Sea

Rain, rain go away

We slept in this morning.  Didn’t roll out of bed till almost noon.  Which we knew meant we had missed breakfast as they stop serving at 11am.  Oh well.  But Dave discovered when he went for a cup of coffee that they still insisted on feeding us breakfast despite the late hour.  Moroccans are known for their hospitality.

At that point it started to rain, and rain, and rain.  We didn’t feel like going out wandering the streets so we just hung out at the Riad reading and watching the rain pour down through the plastic cover over the open area above the courtyard.  Homes and hotels here are often built with a big atrium like area in the center – open to the sky.  In the rainy months, people will put up a plastic cover with a hole in the middle hooked to a hose that lets water drain down without getting everyone inside wet.

We sat atop the roof in a sheltered part a good portion of the day, and caught this video of the rain that coincided with the Muslim call to prayer.

Dinner that night was a lemon chicken tagine.  Good thing we bought a tagine pot so we can try to reproduce the food when we get home.  And more of the special bread made from rice for Melissa.  If only we could figure out how to make that!
